Nice view

June 18, 2010

Taking the ferry around Lake Como is the best way to see all the amazing towns, hotels and private houses (including Villa Clooney!).  This was one of my absolute favorite houses:

And this is what most of the land around Lake Como looks like – pretty nice that everyone has a water view!

Typical side street

Sometimes even walking was a challenge, but it was always worth it.  Here’s one of the streets off the main drag, and they all pretty much had this many stairs!  At least they were lined with shops and cafés…

Driving in style

June 16, 2010

Yesterday I mentioned the roads and driving conditions in and around Bellagio and Lake Como.  I think it helps if you have a car like this… Yes, that is the hotel we stayed at, but no, that’s unfortunately not our car.

Hazardous driving

June 15, 2010

Driving around Bellagio and Lake Como is a great way to see the sights, but it is certainly not for the faint of heart.

Here is a two lane road with warning signs that are not too comforting:

And here is the drive through the main street in Bellagio – stores open onto this tiny one way street, filled with people shopping, eating, and overall not really caring that you are trying to drive through:

I don’t think there are many more beautiful places in the world than Bellagio, Italy.  This nice view was from our balcony… not a bad way to wake up every morning!

A Fiat on Lake Como

June 4, 2010

Check out our awesome bright yellow Fiat on Lake Como!  Another picture taken almost one year ago, this was during the second week of my honeymoon in Bellagio, Italy.  We decided to drive over to Lugano, Switzerland (which is like the Swiss version of Lake Como) one day and our little trusty Fiat made the trip no problem.  Next week I’ll post more honeymoon pics, stay tuned!

Bologna’s streets

April 16, 2010

Unfortunately, it rained the only time I went to Bologna, Italy.  But even in the rain, the beautiful colorful buildings and amazingly narrow streets were so impressive.   Bologna also just happens to be a city filled with porticoes, so the rain didn’t bother me much!

And then there was Rome

View from the Spanish Steps in Rome — and this was a slow day.  I could sit in this spot all day long, it’s one of the greatest people watching perches in the world!

Art for miles and miles

March 12, 2010

I love museums of all shapes and sizes, but the ones in Italy are hard to beat.  This shot of the Gallery of Maps at the Vatican Museum not only displays beautiful historical maps and other artwork along the walls, but check out those ceilings!

Where would I rather be than in rain-soaked Boston?

Positano, Italy.
